Grief and Hope

“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”  Psalm 34:18

This has been a tough year.  We’ve all had loss.  Loss of relationships, getting together with others, loss of big life events like weddings or funerals—and some of us the last year have experienced the loss of loved ones.  I lost my Mother in March.

One thing I have learned is that Grief is a process.  It takes time to process all of our evolving emotions.

If you have experienced life changing loss this past year, I want to encourage you to read on grief or join a Griefshare group.  (Good Grief, by Granger Westberg, is a good, easy reading book.)

For some, we process grief quickly and for others, it takes a long time for the dark clouds to lift.

If you are in a time of grief, I pray you will know God’s love for you.  I pray you will find God’s comfort and that you can hide in the shadow of His wings.

Although it sounds like a cliché, I do believe, “life is hard, but God is good.”

As Christians, it is imperative that we work on our spiritual lives consistently.  We never know what the next week may bring.  We need to work on our personal lives with God before tragedy strikes.

We do have a faithful God who wants to be with us and give us hope.  Press into Him for comfort and hope.

Blessings,

Thora

  1. Thank you for sharing this message and it’s resources. So many times it feels like their should be a timeline on how long we can grieve.

  2. Thank you for your teaching and sharing, Thora. Again, I am so sorry for your loss. I lost my mom & 4 other family members this last year as well. Lately I’ve said many times to people, “I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t have Jesus in my life to help me through it all.” Death & grief can really be a catalyst for growth in our relationship with God.

  3. Thora,
Thank you for your words of wisdom on grief. I’m so sorry to hear your mother passed away.

  4. God Bless you Jeri Ann. I cannot imagine losing 4 people this past year.
