Letting God Draw the Best Out of You

Just as you received Christ Jesus our Lord, continue to live in him. –Colossians 2:6

Wouldn’t you love it if you always had someone who drew the best out of you?!  Someone who saw the best possible you?  You do!

Jesus had the power to draw out the best in people. He met a clumsy, big-mouthed fisherman named Simon. Jesus looked beyond Simon’s present abilities and at his potential. He looked Simon in the eye and said, “So you are Simon the son of John?” After Simon nodded, Jesus said, “You shall be called Peter.”

“Peter” means “rock.” Jesus nicknamed Simon Peter, “The Rock.” At the time Jesus said this, Simon Peter was anything but a “rock” of a person. Yet Jesus saw his potential and this fisherman became the rock-solid leader of the Jerusalem church.

Throughout the Bible we meet different individuals who had an encounter with God and became different people. Abram became Abraham, “the father of a multitude of nations.” Jacob met God and became Israel, which means “soldier of God.”  Prostitutes followed Jesus because He saw them for more than their present circumstances.

It is important for us to know that God affirms us, as He affirmed Bible characters. He loves you and will draw out the best in you. He sees you not only for who you are, but for who you can be.
Colossians 2:6 challenges us to not stop at just receiving Christ, but to continue daily to live in Him. Has your decision to receive Christ as Lord changed the way you live life day to day?  Part of “living in Jesus” is giving Him your insecurities and fears and letting him draw out the very best in you.

Be willing every day to let God work in your life and to draw the best out of you!

Blessings,

Thora

  1. It’s funny how we sometimes get in God’s way of letting Him draw the best out of us. Our spirit may be willing, but our flesh (and our own thinking) can have trouble getting on board with God. My prayer is frequently, “Help me to get out of Your way, Lord!”

  2. Great message. It also reminds me to look at others and see their potential in God. I have been praying over my adult kids the Bible verses that I believe God gave me in the past for each of them. God sees who they are meant to be and wants me to believe the same. Thanks Thora.
