Be Quiet!

Be still and know that I am God… –Psalm 46:10

“With our whole heart, soul, mind, strength and fortitude; with our whole understanding, powers, effort, affection, and feeling; with every desire and wish, let us love the Lord our God who gives each of us our body, our soul, our life; who creates, redeems, and saves us by mercy alone; who does all good for us, the miserable, wretched, rotten, and ungrateful. Let us desire nothing else, want nothing else, delight in nothing else, except our Creator, Redeemer and Savior who alone is good; who alone is holy. Let nothing hinder, separate, or come between us.” –St. Francis of Assisi

Noise fills our lives. TV, Streaming apps, phone alerts, radio, voices. A quiet moment is hard to come by.

It is no surprise that God wants to speak to you. The question is, are we listening? Or, are there simply too many other voices?

We must quiet our hearts in order to learn how to listen to God’s voice. Discovering ways to nurture the practice of silence in our lives is part of the necessary journey into really living as a Christ-follower. Finding quiet for even a moment or two gives us an opportunity to train our hearts, ears, and lives to hear a far sweeter voice–The Spirit sings the words of eternal life.

“A spiritual kingdom lies all about us, enclosing us, embracing us, altogether within reach of our inner selves, waiting for us to recognize it.” –A.W. Tozer

Would you dare to spend some time in silence?

Blessings,

Thora

  1. Shhh! yes, to quiet the heart. A lovely woman shared about sitting w/out any words floating through my mind except maybe Abba for 3 min. (I’m just starting out), & even this is hard. What a peaceful time though. I love the quotes.

  2. For a long time I begged God to heal my hearing as it slowly faded away. Now I am totally deaf but with my cochlear implants, I can hear again. I’m very aware of noise and noise pollution and how distracting it can be. I read my Bible at night before I turn in for sleep and I always take my processors off (I call them my ears…) I am 100% deaf while I read the Word and love it. I can hear God speak to me so much clearer during these times. I never thought to thank God for my deafness until reading this. Thanks for sharing!
