What to do When You Don’t Know What to Do

2 Chronicles 20:12 says “…For we are powerless against this great multitude coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are on You.”

I don’t know about you, but I often don’t know what to do. (with big decisions, child-rearing, ministry decisions, etc.)  Sometimes I look various places for answers, when all along, I needed to be looking to the Lord.  My eyes need to be on HIM.

When Jehoshaphat felt powerless, he acknowledged it, and kept his eyes on the Lord. Jahaziel, a Levite, reminded him, “Do not fear or be dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours but God’s.”

Too often, we try to step in and “fix” things. We get advice from a friend.  We move forward without asking the Lord what He thinks.  We fight battles that we don‘t need to be fighting.  For me, that sometimes comes in the way of worry or losing sleep.

What I need to do when I don’t know what to do, is to keep my eyes on Jesus! I need to stand, pray, and see what God is doing.

Here’s to not knowing what to do!

Blessings,

Thora

  1. I can imagine how much happier I might be if I cast my care on God and waited for Him instead of the fear of wondering how things will turn out. Good reminder!

  2. So true. Do all you can, then He does what you could never do–acknowledge powerlessness. Look to Jesus (not always the first thing we do, we’re distracted & panic). He’s patient & loving 🙂
