Whose Fool Are You?

I’m a fool for Christ…

I often remember the statement by John Wimber, “I’m a fool for Christ, whose fool are you?”

At our recent volunteer appreciation night, the pastors all pretty much made fools of themselves playing minute-to-win-it games.  Shaking your bum in front of the church with a Kleenex box full of ping-pong balls is not really my idea of dignity.

I’ve done a lot of things over the years which probably looked foolish…helping start a church in my 20’s, asking a stranger if I could pray for them, signing my name on a church lease and being personally responsible if this new church didn’t pay its bills, buying 35 acres of land though the church for a big vision…all might seem foolish…but it is definitely better to be a fool for Christ than for the world.  I have dressed up as Cher, Mrs. Claus, and other goofy things over the years for church events.

Being Christ’s fool takes many forms and to use another Wimber quote, “The pay is the same.”  If we are being obedient to God, it doesn’t matter if we are being silly or serious; I think God is happy we are trying.

Bless you Big.
