Blue Jesus

A decade or so ago I attended a ceremony for a man receiving much recognition.  The man’s mother was one of the many speakers.  The only thing I remember from the entire ceremony was that this mother of two commended both of  her children and talked about “Blue Jesus.”

This mother had one other child, an adult now, who was childlike and would never get a big award.  This mom talked about how proud she was of both of her children…the one getting all the accolades and the girl who was precious and had recently painted a picture of Jesus and given it to her Mom.  It was a picture of Jesus and he was blue.  She called him “Blue Jesus.”  I thought it was great that Jesus in her picture was not red or yellow or black or white…but blue.  He was “Blue Jesus.”

All of us are created so uniquely and have different strengths and weaknesses.  We all have different IQ’s and we all want love from our parents.  What an example this mom gave of loving and giving acceptance and honor to both of her children.

It has been over 10 years and from time to time, I still think of “Blue Jesus.”

Blessings,

Thora
