Don’t Forget

I’ve been reading the book of Exodus lately.  One of the devotions in my Bible written by Joni Eareckson Tada caught my attention.  She wrote about how the Israelites witnessed miracle after miracle by God during His process of freeing them from Egyptian slavery.  After seeing God part the red sea for them to pass through safely, they lasted three days before they found something to grumble about – a lack of water.

Tada goes on to mention Deuteronomy 4:9: “Only be careful and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them slip from your heart as long as you live.  Teach them to your children and to their children after them.”

What wisdom in that verse!  God has done amazing things in my life and provided in ways I hadn’t even thought to ask for.  He has blessed me graciously through some of the toughest trials and unexpected life circumstances I have experienced.

My prayer is that when things get tough and I take my eyes off of the Lord and am tempted to grumble about my current circumstances, that he would prompt me to turn my eyes back to him.  I pray that he would remind me of his faithfulness and provision in the past and that the words that come out of my mouth would be full of praise for Him alone: our protector, healer and source of every need.

The second part of the verse is very important as well: “Teach them to your children and to their children after them.”  A couple of friends from different circles have told me that a great way to do this is to either do a family blog or a family journal that documents the trials that have come and how the Lord has provided.  What a wonderful treasure for future generations and a great way to help them grow in their faith!

Blessings to you,

Melissa

  1. Thank you Melissa for your post. God has amazing timing in how he answers our prayers. We need to be reminded daily of this because as humans, we still want to take control. These past 2 wks have been a lesson to rely solely on God and I praise him for this. Thank you again!
