Little BIG Prayers

The other day I was walking my dog, talking to God and enjoying the lovely morning when I had an “AH-HA” moment. I was suddenly aware that my new shoes felt fabulous on my feet. This may not seem noteworthy, but comfortable shoes are nothing short of a minor miracle for me.

For years, I suffered with intense pain in both my feet due to heel spurs and plantar fasciitis. The constant pain made buying shoes of any type an exercise in frustration.

I’ve always loved shoes but for more than 10 years I had to buy practical, oftentimes, ugly shoes to cushion my heels. Buying a pair of athletic shoes usually required several trips to the store for shoes that inevitably were returned. Six to eight trips to the shoe store was pretty typical for me to find one comfortable pair of shoes.

Flash forward to my current pair of new athletic shoes. I purchased these shoes two weeks ago after only ONE trip to the shoe store. Deciding on one pair to buy was somewhat difficult as everything I tried on felt great. That never happens!

After settling on a great pair of New Balance shoes, I brought them home and subjected them to my usual trial and error practice of walking on the treadmill. They passed the test with flying colors – so much so that I decided to “drive them off the lot” and wear them outside.

My AH-HA moment occurred when I realized that lately, I’ve been praying big prayers for things like a friend’s troubled marriage; salvation for a loved one; a friend battling heart disease and someone on the brink of bankruptcy. Yet God quietly answered a prayer for something I never thought to ask Him for … comfortable shoes.

Oftentimes it’s easy to forget to pray about the little things we encounter because we either forget to pray or we don’t want to “bother God” with what we think are insignificant, minor issues. God cares about EVERY detail in our lives (Psalm 37:23) – so why shouldn’t we ask Him to help us with everyday things? Believe it or not – the Lord cares about our feet and everything else about us, including the hairs on our head. Have you ever thought to ask God to make sure you get a great hair cut – or to help you fix your hair when you’re in a rush to get out the door?

The real “AH-HA” epiphany is that nothing is too big or too small for God to handle. He is a BIG God who can handle anything and everything that life throws at us.

The Word tells us to pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17). It’s great to pray about the big things like our relationships, our health and finances – but don’t forget to pray about your feet, your haircuts, your grocery shopping, your commute, your time management and ALL that you encounter DAILY!

Jesus loves me this I know. It’s time to shop, Lord – Can You go!

Blessings in Christ, Kathy K.
