Oxygen

This week, I participated in a 3-night in-home sleep study. When I had my annual physical a couple of weeks ago, I told my doctor that I’m tired all the time. Even when I get at least 8 hours of sleep, there are times I can barely keep my eyes open. So she ordered a sleep study for me. She said I might not be getting enough oxygen at night. As we discussed it she said something that I’ve replayed over in my mind ever since – “A good night’s sleep can be life-changing!”

How often do you hear about something being “life-changing?” Hearing her say that sure has given me hope. Something as simple as getting more oxygen might CHANGE. MY. LIFE? I’m in!

As I was doing my devotional and giving thanks to God for my doctor and the hope I had received, I thought about my experience as a Christ-follower.

Accepting Jesus Christ was life-changing. But just like with our sleep habits, if we deprive ourselves of oxygen – let’s call it spiritual oxygen – we aren’t able to be the best disciples of Christ we can be.

Reading the Word, meeting Him in prayer, serving with love…these things fill us with exactly what we need to be spiritually healthy.

If we deprive ourselves of that, we go through life half-asleep, a vessel of dry bones and weak spirits.

Ezekiel 37:5-6 (NLT) says, “Look! I am going to put breath into you and make you live again! I will put flesh and muscles on you and cover you with skin. I will put breath into you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the Lord.”

Let God give you the oxygen you need to renew your spirit…and to change your life!
