What Goes In, Eventually Comes Out.

“Jesus, Jesus, Sweetest Name I Know.”

In the last year of my sister’s life, at times (because of a long-term illness) when she hovered between life and death, she would often say, “Jesus, Jesus, Sweetest Name I Know.”  This was a line of a hymn we sang as kids growing up in church.

To my knowledge, she had not sung that song in a church service in many, many years.

Songs take hold of us.  Music moves us.  Singing something over and over, has a way of instilling it deeply within us.  However, nothing takes hold of us like Jesus.  There literally is no sweeter name than Jesus.  That name, Jesus, holds us, comforts us, exhorts us, encourages us, calms us, and gives us peace.

I find myself often now saying this line under my breath, “Jesus, Jesus, Sweetest Name I Know.”  It is true that what we put in, comes out.  It may be years down the road, but it makes a difference what we focus on.

Choose to focus on Jesus.

Matthew 15:18 (NIV) But the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart…

  1. Just the mere sound of His name brings music to my ears and joy to my heart.
