Count Your Blessings

Today marks an end to another work year for me.  My students from last year walked across the high school graduation stage, yesterday I gave the last final exam, and finally my daughter had her last day of kindergarten.  I feel excited, happy, but also sad because time stops for no man.  It moves so very quickly, that sometimes I don’t know something is over until there is an event that celebrates the end.  In the scope of eternity, time is so very different from God’s perspective.  God’s word says this about time “But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.” 2nd Peter 3:8. This verse is very reassuring to me when I feel that life is just moving too fast, and I can’t keep up. It helps me keep perspective.  It teaches me several lessons. The first lesson is that I need to live in the moment.  I need to enjoy each gift God gives me in every part of my day.  I really try to make an effort and “See” the good around me whether that be in the laughter of my friends and family, the hug from a student or co-worker, or the dance that my daughter and I do around our house.  Each of these moments are true treasures.  The second lesson that this verse teaches me is that I only see part of the story.  God is above it all. He is above time and space. There is so much more yet to come, and that my friend is exciting.  Nothing is permanent.  Everything is temporary. And He promises those of us who are in Christ Jesus that we have a future and hope beyond our wildest imaginations. “Therefore we do not lose heart. Though we are outwardly wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” 2nd Corinthians 4:16-18. So as you move forward in the light of this new day, I pray that you live in the moment and that you embrace the fact that nothing is permanent. No heartache, no sickness, no weariness.  These are all temporary situations that are moving you closer to who Christ calls you to be. You my friend are destined for great things.  Once you reach your final destination, it will be glorious.  You will finally be in the embrace of your Father who loves you and knows you in a perfect way.  Until then, enjoy the journey and count your many blessings.

In His love,

  1. Sometimes I need to make more efforts to see the good happening in the little moments.

  2. No heartache, no sickness, no weariness. These are all temporary situations that are moving you closer to who Christ calls you to be. This is what I need to remember EVERY day.
