Divine Appointments

Isn’t amazing how God orchestrates the perfect people to be placed in our path for various reasons? Yesterday I was reminded of this when my daughter’s teacher asked me if my daughter spoke a different language?  I was shocked by this at first… but she is after all in kindergarten, and she could use an imaginary language from time to time and that would probably be considered normal.  Her teacher went on to say that Brooke can understand the language of her classmate when no one else in the class can— including the teachers.  She said it is fascinating.  Her friend is Chinese, and Brooke and Alice have become the best of friends since the first week of the school year.  God had his eye on my daughter’s classmate, and knew the perfect person to sit next to her on that first day.   God knew she would feel uneasy about starting a new school, surrounded by so many people who were different than she was, and it would be hard for her to communicate.  But God used my daughter to fulfill that need.  This little girl isn’t left out… she is included…. She isn’t isolated…. She has relationship……She doesn’t have to be the only one who knows her language… He used a six-year-old who knows only English to have the capacity to learn her friend’s language.  Simply amazing.  To me this is a wonderful metaphor of how God works for us and also how he can use us as well.  When we feel left out… he provides us a way to be connected.  When we are isolated…. He provides fellowship and relationship through others but also through himself.  Sometimes we feel no one understand us or the “language of our heart” but God sends an interpreter.  Maybe it’s through his word. Maybe it’s through our pastor. Maybe it is through a friend in small group.  God is good all the time. I love how Philippians 4:19 says it…. “And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.” I love how He meets every one of our needs. I am also thankful that He gave me such a memorable metaphor that I will continue to reflect on throughout my life as I tell this story.  I pray you remember that God may have a divine appointment for you that meets a need today, or perhaps he will use you to be that for someone else. No matter what you will be blessed.

  1. I love this story. I truly love how the Lord used others to reach each of us in some way some how. Thank you for sharing.

  2. Absolutely beautiful! This brought a smile to my heart! As I was thanking him this morning; he was showing me this exact concept! Using us to touch one life at a time, in his own way on his timing Just another confirmation. Thank you for sharing. Have a beautiful day.

  3. Thanks Jessica for reminding us to be still and listen to His voice to come to the aid of others. Please let Brooke know we are grateful she helped Alice and showed Jesus’ loving heart! Brooke is a good friend!

  4. “Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God”. God is with us always in places and people we encounter every day.

  5. I substitute in the school system, and the classes are very intercultural and international, now. Languages and people from all over the world. That we may all be like children, accepting and befriending refugees and immigrants in our communities. My college classes are more and more diverse, as well.
