Warning: Construction Zone Ahead!

A few months ago my husband and I moved into our brand new home. While we love our home (WE LOVE IT A LOT), living in a neighborhood currently under construction is proving to be a bit challenging.

This is the third new home we’ve built from scratch so we’re no strangers to suburban construction zones. Our previous homes were built towards the end of the neighborhood projects, though, while our current home was completed towards the beginning of the development phase. We are currently surrounded by homes in various stages of completion.

Living in a construction zone is noisy and loud, messy, dusty and frequently inconvenient as large trucks and cranes maneuver down our narrow street blocking access to our home. At times, construction living can be downright dangerous as I learned two weeks ago when I was suddenly ordered to evacuate my home when a construction worker accidentally cut a gas line. While terrifying, it’s unfortunately a very realistic part of life in a construction zone.

Since completing the 50 Days of Transformation with our church family, I’ve been feeling like I’m living a life under construction, in more ways than one. So many of the daily devotions challenged me in every area of my life. As we progressed through each phase of our transformation I began to feel as if my life was being turned inside out. I kept thinking, how can one person have so many things wrong with them?

Honestly, I’m somewhat ashamed to admit that when we started the 50 Days project I was skeptical about the eight-week long study. I’ve known Jesus for 40 years so I thought I’d worked out all my issues. I thought there was nothing new to learn. I thought there was nothing new to teach this old dog. I could not have been more wrong.

The first week was about what I expected, but something began to change within me about halfway through week two when we delved into Transforming our Physical Health. Each subsequent week, I discovered that many of my issues were all connected and intertwined, lying dormant from my troubled childhood. My devotional book is filled with paper clips, asterisks, underlining and yellow highlighted passages all speaking to my “AHA!” epiphanies.

Living life in a personality transformational construction zone can be messy, inconvenient and somewhat dangerous as we try to navigate our way through changing quirks, habits and personal beliefs that may have been with us for most of our lives.

The good news is that if we do the work and continue to build on all that we learned during our 50 Days of Transformation, we can be transformed into who God has envisioned us to be all along: a beautiful reflection of our Father.

And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns. Philippians 1:6 (NLT)

Blessings in Christ,

I am a wife, mother, grandmother and published author of three books. My true passion is to share the Gospel through the written word. I may not be a Pulitzer Prize winning author, but God tells us to be faithful with "little things," ... so at my Lord's pleasure ... I use my "little writing gift" to write for Him.

  1. Kathy, frankly, we are ALL on a healing journey (not destination) regardless of how long we have been walking the salvation road. For me, Healing From The Inside Out (classes offered at VC) was an incredible breakthrough to start & continue the healing process. I have been healed, I am being healed, and I will continue to be healed. I pray the same Blessings and healings to you in every area of your life.
