When something happens in this fallen world that does not go our way (it goes against how God wants us to live and away from Biblical principles) It may be tempting to sulk, fight harder, be angry or despair.
I listened to a devotional recently by Pastor Ray Johnston at Bayside Church in California that focused on how Christians can respond in a God honoring and world-impacting way. It really encouraged me and I am going to share some main points from his message in hopes that it encourages you too.
We can respond by doing three things that we are told to do throughout the Bible:
- Paul says in Philippians 4:4, “Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I say rejoice.” We can always rejoice in the fact that God has not gone anywhere. He is still present at all times. We can rejoice that Christ’s death and resurrection remains the power of salvation for anyone who turns to Jesus Christ. We can rejoice in the fact that NOTHING can separate us from God’s love. (Romans 8:39)
- Remain faithful to Jesus Christ and to what scripture says. As followers of Christ, we are to keep our focus on Him and how he tells us to live through God’s word, The Bible.
- Reach Out. We have much work to do as followers of Christ. There is a world full of hurting and lost people and they need us as imitators of Christ to reach out to them in order to love them and point them to Jesus.
So if you find yourself at a loss and wondering what to do in difficult times, remember the three “R’s.” Rejoice, Remain Faithful and Reach Out.
Blessings to you,
