Why Do You Love God?

Why do you love God?

A simple question, but one that is so profound.  I’ve recently found myself pondering this question, and others, in my heart.

What are my motives?  Is my love for Him based on His actions?  His blessings?  What happens when His will doesn’t line up with mine, do I love Him still?  Do I expect Him to act, or behave a certain way in order to earn my love?

We know that God loves us unconditionally, but what about our love for Him?

The Bible says in 1 John 4:19….

We love Him because He loved us first. (NLV)

In a world full of hidden agenda’s and personal schemes, it can be difficult to simply love God because He’s God. He’s good, and merciful, and the creator of all things. We want the love and respect of the people around us simply because they love us for who we are, not what we can give them.   Does God deserve any less?
