Every year at our church we throw an outreach for Single Moms’ in our community. Just shy of 20 years now, the Single Mom’s Spa Day has grown from a handful of guests and volunteers to at our largest year 360 guests and over 200 volunteers. I have had many questions through the years as I have been part of the wonderful team that is the nuts and bolts of this event and I thought this would be a good way to answer some of them.
WHY IS THIS CONSIDERED AN OUTREACH IF IT IS A SPA DAY?
Colossians 3:12: So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience
Simple actions of kindness with no strings attached can change hearts faster than anything I know. These families need a God shot and to feel unconditionally loved. What better way than through serving a gentle touch and a listening ear?
WHO STARTED THE SINGLE MOMS’ SPA DAY?
Isaiah 61:1-2: The spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, because the LORD has anointed me; He has sent me to bring good news to the afflicted, to bind up the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, release to the prisoners, To announce a year of favor from the LORD.
Alecia Manes, a life long member of VCNP, started the event with a few friends 18 years ago in someone’s home. Although she wasn’t a mother yet herself , she heard God call her to start this now very successful outreach. I wonder if she imagined her obedience to God and saying yes to the Holy Spirits prompting would bring this kind of fruit?
HOW CAN I BE A PART OF THE SINGLE MOMS SPA DAY?
James 1:27 : Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress
Here at VCNP we believe that this verse is very much applicable to today’s single Momma’s. We need over 200 volunteers and people to give to this event every year through time given and gifts that are donated. Gift Cards, cash donations towards supplies are just a few ways to be apart of this special day. Look in your bulletin for ways to sign up and volunteer starting in April. There is no sign up it is first come first served so make sure if you want to attend you come early!
What a joy to be a part if this event! I encourage every women ,14 and over, to be a part of this life transforming day at least once.
