Wanting

I love the holidays! I love decorating, the preparation, the menu options and all the events that go along with the season! Having said this, life has happened! Three months ago we moved into a new house with so much to do and tis the season that  my job has required a ton of overtime. As the days seem to run past me all I have been thinking about is I have to get everything done so I can enjoy the holidays!!! Needless to say this has put so much pressure on me and I am unfortunately driving my husband crazy!

Last week during my devotional time the Holy Spirit brought to my mind Palms 23:1.

“A Psalm of David. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.”

The Lord reminded me it is easy to forget what’s important. It seems all I want to do is to be finished with this room, I want to be caught up at work, I want to start this project and the wish-list of “wants” goes on and on.  I was filling my walls with photos of loved ones; sayings about friends and faith. I am going to church and getting involved with the holiday outreaches – but I was forgetting about the joy of just HIS PRESENCE!

Its easy for me in the hustle and bustle of life to forget HIM! I forget how wonderful it is to just want to wait for extended times before the Lord enjoying the warmth of His embrace. I forget how lovely His peace penetrating through me feels and I forget to allow the one who is the Shepherd and Guardian of my soul to do just that, guard my soul!  (1 Peter 2:25).

The holidays and life are often gigantic to-do and to-go lists.  The Lord reminded me and promised me early that morning if I changed my list of wants to experiencing the Lord’s presence and longing for more of the Father, this holiday season I would not want for anything!

After all Jesus is the Reason for the Season!

As always, from my heart to yours,
