Growing up I always wanted to be someone else. I wanted to be prettier, smarter, thinner, more outgoing, more…well…anything else that wasn’t me.
It didn’t help that the world around me agreed with me. From commercials to television shows, to newspapers and magazine ads, and even some well-meaning friends, the message was always…”You’re not good enough”. This mentality became a way of life, and for most of it, I struggled with feelings of inadequacy and shame. Because the truth of the matter was that I didn’t fit into the world’s preformatted box, and nothing I did could change that.
The Bible says in Psalm 139:14 “I praise you (God) because you made me in such a wonderful way. I know how amazing that was!” (ERV)
The good news is that I was created unique. God made me who I am, and who I am going to be. I don’t have to be like anyone else but me because God loves me for who I am, not for what the world says I should be.
So maybe you’re struggling with the ‘box’ that the world has created for you. Take comfort in the fact that God created you, that before He even formed you in your mother’s womb (Jeremiah 1:5) He already knew who you were, and who you were going to be, and He loves you just the way you are.
